ATTENTION WEYMOUTH RESIDENTS
In order to be consistent and better informed, Mayor Susan Kay is instituting a new “Special Event Request” form and inter-departmental procedure.
If you are planning a block party, road race or an event in one of our public parks, you will now be required to fill out a Special Event Request form. Certain department heads, such as the Police & Fire Chiefs, will be asked to sign off their approval and knowledge of such an event. The Mayor’s Office staff will provide a completed, signed copy of the form to the individual making the request prior to their event and will also keep a copy on file.
It is recommended that a request be made well in advance of an event to allow for proper notification to all appropriate departments.
In the past, written permission for some events was required and a permit was issued through the Mayor’s Office. This new procedure and Special Event Request form will replace the old procedure and will hopefully keep all essential departments informed of events within our community.
Please contact the Mayor’s Office at 781-340-5012 for the Special Event Request form or for more information. These forms are also available on our website at: www.weymouth.ma.us under documents and forms and also on the Mayor’s Office page.
Please Note: Mike Doyle of our Recreation Department will continue issuing all field permits.

Town of Weymouth Scholarship
In 1989 the annual Town Meeting adopted General Laws Chapter 60, Section 3 C. This authorized the Town of Weymouth to establish a scholarship fund. Income for awards comes from Weymouth residents who make a voluntary contribution when paying their real estate and excise tax bills. Weymouth businesses and organizations contribute by sponsoring individual scholarships. In addition, donations are received from individuals honoring or memorializing friends and loved ones.
To be eligible for an award you must be a resident of Weymouth, and you must be accepted to pursue education beyond the secondary school level at an institution deemed accredited by the Scholarship Fund Committee. High school seniors, presently attending college students, vocational students and adults who may be returning to college after some years at home or in the work place are eligible for an award. The Committee will consider each candidate's financial need, character, scholastic record, involvement in community work, extracurricular school activities and work experience. In fairness to all applicants, if you have already received two Town of Weymouth scholarship awards you will not be eligible to receive a third.
The completed application and supporting documentation must be received by the Scholarship Fund Committee no later than March 31st. The Committee encourages early applicant submissions. Please mail or deliver your application to the Scholarship Fund Committee, Town Hall, 75 Middle Street, Weymouth, MA 02 189.
Scholarships will be awarded at a ceremony in May.
